Varex Imaging MCS-7078 X-ray Tube, manufactured in 2025 — a high-power rotating-anode X-ray tube designed for use in Toshiba / Canon Medical Systems Aquilion-series CT scanners. The MCS-7078 is Varex’s designation for the tube corresponding to the Toshiba / Canon CXB-750D/4A.

Technical documentation for the MCS-7078D Rev.2 version confirms a 7.5 MHU anode heat capacity, high power output, and an efficient heat dissipation system, allowing the tube to be used in high-load CT systems.

Technical Specifications:

  • Type: rotating-anode X-ray tube.
  • Anode diameter: 200 mm (7.8″).
  • Maximum rated tube voltage: 150 kV. In Toshiba / Canon Aquilion CT systems, the operating scan voltage can be up to 135 kV.
  • Anode heat capacity: 5.4 MJ / 7.5 MHU.
  • Rated anode power: 42 kW for the small focal spot and 72 kW for the large focal spot.
  • Focal spots: 0.9 × 0.8 mm and 1.6 × 1.4 mm in accordance with IEC 60336.
  • Maximum tube current: up to 720 mA in applicable short-term load modes. The allowable current depends on voltage, focal spot size, initial heat load, and the settings of the specific CT system.
  • Maximum anode cooling rate: 16.5 kW / 23.1 kHU/s, equivalent to approximately 1,386 kHU/min.
  • Maximum continuous anode heat dissipation: 12 kW / 16.8 kHU/s, or approximately 1,008 kHU/min.
  • Target material: tungsten-rhenium working layer on a molybdenum base with a graphite backing.
  • Anode angle: 7°.

Compatibility with Toshiba / Canon Medical Systems CT Scanners:

For the MCS-7078 / CXB-750D/4A family, compatibility has been confirmed with the following platforms:

  • Aquilion 4
  • Aquilion 8
  • Aquilion 16
  • Aquilion 32
  • Aquilion 64
  • Aquilion CXL
  • Aquilion RXL
  • Aquilion VeloCT
  • Aquilion Prime — first generation (Gen 1)

Varex MCS-7078 — a proven solution for a wide range of Aquilion-family CT systems, designed to withstand significant thermal and operational loads. Compatibility with a specific scanner should be verified by CT model, system serial number, and OEM part number.
